The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) department in Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) educates citizens on constitutional rights and responsibilities, fosters local civic participation, and promotes peacebuilding.
Constitutional and Civic Education
- Constitutional Awareness: Builds society-wide understanding of the 1992 Constitution as Ghana’s fundamental law.
- Rights and Duties: Teaches citizens to appreciate their civic obligations and legal rights.
- Constitution Defense: Encourages the public to protect the constitution against abuse and violations.
Local Governance and Collaboration
- Public Participation: Promotes community involvement in local development processes and electoral activities.
- Cross-Cutting Campaigns: Partners with MMDAs on public education for local tax revenue generation, environmental sanitation, gender mainstreaming, and health issues like HIV/AIDS.
- Peace and Conflict Resolution: Facilitates local social cohesion, tolerance, and peacebuilding measures before and during local or national events.
