The Asokwa Municipal Assembly, through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, has undertaken its 13th disbursement exercise to support Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), benefiting 47 beneficiaries with interventions valued at GH₵262,712.00. The beneficiaries comprised 23 females, 21 males and 3 disability associations (GFD, GBU & GNAD).
The exercise, held on Thursday, 3rd September 2026, provided support in the areas of business and livelihood development, education, medical needs, organizational support and assistive devices. Twenty (20) beneficiaries received financial support totalling GH₵86,000.00, while 27 received various items and in-kind support.
In his welcome address, the Head of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Mr. Dickson Frimpong, highlighted the Department’s commitment to providing targeted, needs-based support to persons with disabilities.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Amoh Kamel, encouraged beneficiaries to use the support responsibly and productively. He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to promoting the inclusion, independence and socio-economic wellbeing of Persons with Disabilities.
The programme also featured remarks from the GFD Representative, Madam Gifty Afi Wetsi, Presiding Member, Hon. Yaw Wiredu; Atonsu Hene, Hon. Nana Yaw Adarkwa Yiadom and Ahinsan Hemaa, Nana Akosua Fobi.
The Assembly further announced that 344 Persons with Disabilities have been registered and validated, comprising 169 males and 175 females, providing a stronger database for evidence-based planning and targeted interventions.
Beneficiaries Appreciate the Support
Overall, the beneficiaries expressed their appreciation for the support provided by the Assembly and pledged to take good care of the items and make productive use of the assistance received.
Among them:
Eric Adjei Ameka– expressed appreciation for the GH₵5,000 business support, noting that it would strengthen his livelihood.
Peter Opoku– expressed gratitude for the barbering shop equipment, which will support the growth of his business.
Robert Bekoe– appreciated the industrial sewing machine, which will enhance his dressmaking/tailoring work and production.
The Assembly will continue to monitor the utilization of the support and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to create opportunities for persons with disabilities to improve their livelihoods, pursue education, access essential services and participate meaningfully in the development of the Municipality.
