The Department of Social Welfare & Community Development of the Asokwa Municipal Assembly successfully organized a two-day Bi-Annual Early Childhood Development Centre (ECDC) Caregivers Training Program from Saturday 30th to Sunday 31st May, 2026 at the Asokwa Municipal Conference Hall.
The training formed part of the Assembly’s continuous efforts to strengthen the capacity of caregivers and improve the quality of care and early childhood education services within the municipality.
A total of fifty-seven (57) schools participated in the program. Day One recorded ninety-one (91) caregivers made up of eighty-eight (88) females and three (3) males, while Day Two recorded ninety (90) caregivers comprising eighty-six (86) females and four (4) males.
The two-day program featured insightful and practical presentations facilitated by officers from the Department and invited resource persons. Topics covered included Classroom Management & Positive Behavior Guidance, Law on Children, Managing Learning Space, Socialization, Child Development Ladder, Customer Service, Early Phonics & Numeracy, Play-Based & Child-Centered Learning, as well as Creating Low-Cost Teaching Aids.
Facilitators were Mrs. Esther Apraku Nyarko (KMA Director of Social Development), Mr. Dickson Frimpong (Head of Development) and a team from ‘Building Firm Foundation Consult’
Participants were educated on effective classroom management techniques, child protection and children’s rights under Ghana’s laws, child-centered learning approaches, and practical ways of improving teaching and caregiving practices within daycare centres and preschools.
The training was highly interactive, with caregivers actively participating in discussions, practical demonstrations, and question-and-answer sessions. Participants expressed appreciation to the Department for organizing such an impactful program and appealed for more regular capacity-building trainings to further enhance their professional skills and service delivery.
