The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development (Gender Desk) of the Asokwa Municipal Assembly celebrated International Women’s Day 2026 at Atonsu S-Line under the theme “Give to Gain.” The event aimed to recognize the contributions of women and promote gender equality and empowerment within the community.

Distinguished guests present included the Municipal Chief Executive Amoh Kamel, the Director of National Commission for Civic Education Mr. Tweneboah Kodua, Oheneyere Adwoa Fremah (Queen Mother of Agogo), media personality Beatrice Spio Garbra of Akoma FM, and the Regional Director of Community Development Janet Gyamfua Amonoo, among other distinguished guests.

Speakers highlighted the significance of International Women’s Day, celebrated globally every 8th March, as a day to recognize the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women while advocating for gender equality.

In line with the theme “Give to Gain,” speakers emphasized that when individuals, institutions, and communities invest their time, knowledge, and resources in empowering women, the entire society benefits. Women were encouraged to be confident, pursue leadership opportunities, and improve their economic and social wellbeing. Men and community leaders were also urged to support women’s empowerment and ensure women’s voices are heard in decision-making.

The event featured cultural displays and a poetry recital by pupils of Atonsu M/A School, which added cultural richness and excitement to the celebration.

In conclusion, the celebration at Atonsu S-Line was successful and impactful, reinforcing the message that when society provides women with support, opportunities, and resources, everyone gains.
