REPORT ON MENSTRUAL HYGIENE CELEBRATION

HELD AT ASOKWA PRESBY CHURCH FOR PRESBY PRIMARY AND J.H.S STUDENTS

THEME: TOGETHER FOR A PERIOD FRIENDLY GHANA

SLOGAN: PERIODS ARE NATURAL, HYGIENE IS ESSENTIAL

The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development (Gender Desk Office) in collaboration with Ghana Education Service organized a Menstrual Hygiene Celebration at Presby Primary and J.H.S to educate students on proper menstrual hygiene management and child protection issues.

The program brought together 250 participants including Regional Director for Community Development Madam Janet Gyamfuah-Amonoo, Mr. Dickson Frimpong Municipal Director for Social welfare and Community Development, Hon. Akwasi Appiah Assembly Member Asokwa Electoral Area, Deputy director of Education Madam Matilda Obiri, Students, teachers and Staff of the department to create awareness on the importance of maintaining good hygiene during menstruation and protecting young girls from abuse and teenage pregnancy.

The Regional Director for community development, Madam Janet Gyamfuaa Amonoo, educated the students on how to maintain good hygiene during menstruation. She explained the importance of bathing regularly, changing sanitary pads frequently, washing hands before and after changing pads, and properly disposing of used sanitary materials. She also encouraged the girls to feel confident and not be ashamed of menstruation since it is a natural part of life.

Mr. Dickson Frimpong also took the students through a child protection education session using the Child Protection Flash Cards. He educated the students, especially the girls, on how to protect themselves from men who may take advantage of them and the need to avoid situations that could lead to teenage pregnancy. He advised the students to report any form of abuse or inappropriate behavior to trusted adults, teachers, or parents.

The students actively participated in the discussions by asking questions and sharing their experiences. The program was very educative and impactful as it increased awareness on menstrual hygiene and child protection among the students.

In conclusion, the celebration successfully achieved its purpose of educating students on menstrual hygiene management and the importance of protecting themselves from abuse and teenage pregnancy.
